For the past two weeks I've been traveling through the US, attending conferences, working with game development studios and doing occasional field recording. I spent a week in San Francisco, 3 days in Dallas and another 3 days in New York. More about the first part of the trip in a longer blog post.
I didn't have a lot of meetings in New York so I got the chance to explore the city on foot (more than 36 miles logged on to my health app) and to do a good deal of recording. There isn't a lot to record in NYC besides traffic, trains and occasionally crowds (with traffic and trains in the background). These subjects however are insanely varied and complex, partly due to the reflective surfaces of roads and buildings:
On top of this I also met a few street musicians, one of whom kindly allowed me to record him. He used objects like buckets, pots and bits of metal, but his music sounded amazing. Here's a short excerpt:
