Amazon Jungle is a collection of unique ambiences recorded in the Amazon rainforest on the border between Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. The library was recorded during the rainy season when birds are vocal and humidity is at its highest. These recordings feature species such as the Screaming Piha, Toucans, Howler Monkeys, Trogons, Tinamous, Owls, very vocal Bamboo Rats and a multitude of insects and frogs.

The library covers the following locations:

  • remote dense rainforest far away from human habitation and teeming with wildlife

  • clearings on the forest floor with beautiful acoustics

  • the shores of small lakes in the rainforest

  • the sides of small tributary rivers deep in the jungle

  • oxbow lakes - unique geographical features resulting from meanders of a river getting cut off by landslides or floods

Each of these location types comes with unique acoustics and feature specific species. All times of day and night are covered. Most of the recordings were made during calm weather with only a few featuring soft wind or heavy rainfall with thunder. As expected, a large part of the library features humidity, fog drip and bits of vegetation snapping or otherwise being noisy.

Wildlife densities vary from very sparse nightscapes to full-on lush dawn choruses. Birds are present during day time and sparsely at night. Insects feature in all recordings unless there was heavy rainfall. Frogs are present in most humid areas i.e. lakeside, rivers and oxbows. There are some mammals too, with the Howler Monkey and its terrifying calls resonating through the rainforest. The Bamboo Rat makes appearances especially on calm nights.

Every file in the library has been carefully meta-tagged with descriptive keywords for ease of use. As mentioned before, the library also comes with a pdf document listing all identified species for every recording. This location is not that well explored so many species were not possible to identify and can even be new to science.
